'Through the memories of the older member of the community - some of whom are no longer with us - we have tried to portray what life was like in the early years of the 20th century. There was no electricity, no radio, no television, no water on tap, no cookers, and no modern sanitation. In addition there were difficulties of travel - no cars - so that most journeys were by foot or horse and cart on rutted, unsurfaced tracks.'
